Work-Life Balance: Is 4 Day a week good for us?

Work -life balance is the biggest challenge of modern life. Employee, employer and HR ministry are always finding the best options to maintain health of employees and maintain productivity.

Statistics by WHO are suggesting “ 41 million death occurs each year globally due to life style diseases .” Last 20 years deaths due to infectious diseases are going down but life style diseases are increasing. If you observe majority of adults after
40 are on some or other medicines. As it is so common in developed nation like USA or
developing nation like India , everyone feels it is that way only. Which is not true.

Most of human bodies are designed to remain healthy if you follow your body’s Circadian rhythm, a natural biological clock which regulates your metabolic activities of body cells. It’s time to reorganise your life according to your bio-clock. This means going back to 10 to 5 working timing or trying 4 days a week work culture. Joe Ryle, director of ‘4 Day week Campaign’ has done world’s largest trial in UK. 56 companies participated continued permanently, employee worked average 34 hours a week.
Many staff said that has improved their wellbeing, decreased level of burnout and dramatic reduction in levels of stress and illness and also maintained productivity at the companies. Similar observation came from New Zealand based group- 4 days week global, which got academic backing suggesting the productivity of companies was not affected with this change.

Each decade comes with newer working challenges and organisations must be flexible to adopt and modify their work time as the goal is to have good productivity with healthy employees and healthy nation.
